About

If you are reading this and are intrigued about the blog I will tell you a little about myself. This blog has a real variety of things in there. You will find book reviews, spiritual reflections, the effect of education and technology and society and so much more. It might make your head spin a little but I hope you like the blog.

Hey All.  The name is  Maryam. In the past three years I have lived in three different countries, and I have dual citizenship. I am writing this in an airport.  Needless to say, I am from everywhere and anywhere.  My Dad is American , my mom is Scottish, I grew up in El Salvador. In the past three years I have lived in London, Madrid and El Salvador. I work as a freelance writer, illustrator, educator and editor. My life can be interesting to say the least. This blog explores the issues around me as well as my own personal experiences. I believe in serving others and working towards a better world. ( Which sounds kind of corny)…Join me on the journey.

You also might have found me from my live-streaming on Periscope as Wingeyes or through my illustrations. I have not been writing on this blog as much as I used to, but fear not I will be using it a lot more soon! .
“The primary, the most urgent requirement is the promotion of education. It is inconceivable that any nation should achieve prosperity and success unless this paramount, this fundamental concern is carried forward. The principal reason for the decline and fall of peoples is ignorance. Today the mass of the people are uninformed even as to ordinary affairs, how much less do they grasp the core of the important problems and complex needs of the time.”

  2. Hey Maryam, thanks for following me on my blog(s)! I see you’re a fellow Third Culture Kid! Are you part of the my.tckid.com community or the Facebook group? If not, please join us, we are always welcoming newcomers because we’re all friends and family who’ve never met (in a manner of speaking).

    1. Hi Johnny! I didn’t know of that group so I just joined! Thanks for the tip! I did join the facebook group but it’s been awhile. It’s always nice to keep in contact with people who understand that answering the question “Where are you from? “can be complicated 🙂

  3. Dear Maryam, when I read the last line of your About (that you thought was kind of corny), I knew we have lots in common (see my About!). We have family in El Salvador and my good friend Rosa Gonzalez is from there too. I wonder if you know her?! 😀 Take care and loving greetings from Finland, Sharon.

    1. Yes! I grew up with her actually 🙂 We both had children classes together, and I know her husband quite well too! Small world!

      1. Allah’u’Abha Maryam!!!!!!! HUGS!!!!!!!!! What a small world indeed! I totally knew we had lots in common from the first time I read your About! My husband’s family is related to Vadieh & Mahbubeh. Looking forward to reading your blog and getting to know you! Sharon

    2. Ha! Well vadieh’s daughter is one of my best friends and vesal, her brother is my brother’s best friend. Even smaller world.

  4. Hi, Maryam.

I’m so glad you subscribed to my blog ‘cos it’s given me the chance to read some of your posts. They’re really good. You deal with serious issues in such a clear and accessible way without simplifying them. I’ll have some downtime in India soon and plan to read more of your posts more carefully. It’s good to find you. Warm regards, Pete

    1. I am glad you liked it 🙂 i had been a bit inconsistent in my blogging but as a freelance writer it’s a good exercise to keep working on my writing and also to get down all those thoughts and learning I have had. I enjoyed your blog as well

  5. Hi Maryam.. your pieces are awesome. Reading your blog has kept me sane in the office for the past 5 hours of boredome. It is thought provoking and inspiring. I hope that someday I would be able to write just as beautifully as you do. ^_^ V

    1. That’s so sweet 🙂 I am glad you were entertained. Just keep writing, it’s definitely a skill you need to do everyday. I tend to blog so that I won’t drive my friends mad by writing long emails about this stuff haha.

      1. Maryam, Thank you for sharing your thoughts with your blog instead of writing emails to your friends. Many people enjoy your writing. That’s reason enough. But I find your thoughts very clear, well presented and enlightening. And they are positive, caring and elevating to the reader. Reasons that make your sharing even more worthwhile and beautiful. You have a gift. It’s a gift that’s made better in the sharing; given to you for the sharing. SO from one more person who enjoys your work, thank you.

  6. HI Maryam! Glad to have found your blog. I look forward to reading more! Hope all is well on your end. 🙂
